JROTC Program

Supported by the ESC of Lake Erie West, Junior Reserve Officer  Training Course (JROTC) is a  4-year elective at Springfield  High School that focuses on teamwork and individual responsibility. It is the only program of its kind in northwest Ohio.

All activities are planned and organized by a cadet Chain of Command that is selected by the cadre and the corps of cadets based on a cadet’s ability to be a standard bearer of the 7 Army Values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage (LDRSHIP).   Throughout the course, the cadre and upper classmen present cadets with lessons, weekly uniform inspections, community service opportunities, and leadership labs - an educational experience that puts the cadets in charge and exercises their decision making skills.

Every year, the Blue Devil Battalion provides at least 3,500 total community service hours. The Battalion has been annually recognized as an Honor Unit With Distinction.

The drill team, known as the Emerald Guard, is a nationally ranked team and maintains the distinction of being in the top 10% of all JROTC drill teams in the country. Though it is not mandatory to participate, those involved with the drill team gain skills capable of being applied outside of the school environment. Last year the drill team placed 1st at the 7th Brigade’s regional competition. At All Army in Louisville, KY, they were recognized as second in the nation in Squad Unarmed exhibition.
