School Safety Plans - December 5
Ohio requires the administrator of each facility in the state of Ohio that provides educational services to children and is subject to regulation by the Ohio Department of Education to submit an emergency management plan for review and approval. Many schools/school districts are entering into the period where their current safety plans must be updated for the three year review. As plans are updated, they must meet new requirements for School Safety Plans. This session will provide an overview of the changes that need to be incorporated into updated school safety plans and walk attendees through the steps needed to complete a compliant school safety plan.
Trauma Skilled Classroom - January 16, 2019
Studies show that more than 25 percent of American youth experience a serious traumatic event by the age of 16 and many children suffer multiple and repeated traumas. Common sources of trauma include abuse and neglect; foster care placement, death of a parent, parent incarceration, divorce, bullying, serious accidental injury; experiencing or witnessing violence in neighborhoods, schools, and homes; homelessness and treatment for life-threatening illness. A traumatic event can seriously interrupt the school routine and the processes of teaching and learning.
This workshop will provide an introduction into how trauma can affect the classroom and how to manage trauma in the classroom.
